Description
On Friday the Bureau of Meteorology forecast thunderstorms in this area and so I made sure the camera batteries were all charged up. Sure enough by mid afternoon the clouds started gathering and the skies darkened. I checked the radar and saw a couple of very active cells tracking right towards us, one of which looked like it was going to go right over the top of Jervis Bay. So I headed to Shoalhaven Heads to photograph the storm from its northern flanks and set up next to the public wharf. Truth be told this particular spot has always been a lucky location for me - I've photographed some awesome thunderstorms there. As the gust front rolled through, the leading edge became very pronounced and the lightning began. I took lots of shots as it passed by along with a timelapse on the GoPro, but this is my favourite shot from the evening. It's a 20 second exposure, which means that the girl on the wharf was standing pretty still! Anyway, I guess it's back to work for a lot of folks tomorrow (sorry!) although here in Australia it's the summer holidays and many people will be taking their long annual vacations. Have a great week whichever camp you're in
