Boat Harbour Gerringong
Forecast was mixed this morning, so I hoped for some moody conditions and, what do you know, I got them. This is how sunrise looked at 6:15 this morning at Boat Harbour in Gerringong. It was rainy and cold but the ocean is amazingly warm at the moment and so I felt like I was standing in bath water and not a rock pool. Normally see a few folks about down there but it was deserted until shortly before I left and the first of the morning joggers started appearing.
As we cruise into autumn, the clocks have gone back an hour here in New South Wales. That means that lazy sunrises (7am) have gone for now, but it also means that winter's on the way, which has positives and negatives. Hopefully this prolonged stretch of wet weather we've been having will fizzle out and the weather will become slightly more normal again. Anyway, today's shot is a classic Gerroa view, looking over the rocks of Crooked River at sunset. I've been photographing the sunset at Gerroa since I moved to the south coast 11 years ago and I still underestimate how deep this river is every single time I'm down there. I strike out for the other bank, thinking to myself, how deep can it be and every time I get a wet bum.
Walkers Beach
Sometimes I set my alarm a little bit too late and, to avoid missing the colour, pull off at the side of the road wherever I happen to be. On this occasion, I was actually en route to Boat Harbour in Gerringong, but the light was so awesome that I pulled over at the golf course near Walkers Beach instead. And actually it made for a much nicer shot than the one I'd probably have got at Boat Harbour. I think they call that serendipity.
Shoalhaven Heads
Well, I did head down to the beach this morning but it was bloody freezing (by Australian standards!) and greyer than Gandalf's knickers. Check my Instagram story feed ( if you'd like to see for yourself. So here's a shot from a couple of weeks ago at the public wharf in Shoalhaven Heads. This is one of my many happy places and, to be honest, kind of the starting place for my most recent journey with photography, when I moved to Shoalhaven Heads 10 years ago. TFI Friday team, to the weekend, poste haste!! :)

Been a member of this website for 15 years now and have enjoyed uploading all kinds of stuff here over the years. I started out making customised themes for Stardock's ObjectDock, back when 90% of the stuff on this site was about desktop customisation. The site was a creative outlet for me at a time when I didn't really have any other avenues to express myself in.

From there I moved into creating wallpapers, initially abstract stuff I knocked up in Cinema 3D and later vexels made by tracing round photographs in Photoshop. You can find examples of 'em in my gallery - my oldest upload dates from 2002 - but I've deleted about 75% of the stuff I put on this site because I couldn't bear to look at most of it.

In 2005 I finally got my own digital camera (a Canon G6 Powershot) although I wasn't completely cameraless before then because I used to review them for magazines like Stuff. Anyway - I loved that Canon and it served me well for about four years until one morning it committed suicide and refused to ever turn on again. So instead I turned to my iPhone, initially the 3GS and later on the 4 - both of which I used to take candid street photos.

Then my wife bought me a Canon DSLR - the EOS550D and I was a very happy chap. This awesome camera has enabled me to start taking the kinds of photos I've always loved - landscapes mainly - the more colourful the better. I've since upgraded to the Canon 7D Mark II. I live on the east coast of Australia, a few minutes from the Pacific Ocean and so the ocean figures heavily in my gallery, as does sunshine!
Just uploaded a collection of my photos of the Jervis Bay bio-luminiscence over at Flickr. Have a look if you've got a minute :)
